While held in the county next door, Saturday’s finale of the Big Ten Wrestling Championships was really a Marion County affair. North Marion, Fairmont Senior and East Fairmont took the top three team spots in the 12-team tournament, and along the way let its new conference know there’s some new kids in town.

Fairmont Senior’s swim squads put together another solid showing at West Virginia Wesleyan’s Splash Invitational on Saturday, taking third in both team events. The Polar Bear girls piled up 82 team points, just behind runner-up Elkins (85) and team champ Buckhannon-Upshur (110).

County residents receive about $210,000 in unclaimed property

Almost $210,000 in unclaimed property was returned to Marion County residents in 2011. For each of the 10 counties in North Central West Virginia, State Treasurer John Perdue’s Unclaimed Property Division recently released a list of the number of unclaimed property cases that were paid out last year and the total dollar amount of all those claims, said spokesman Greg Stone.
