County residents receive about $210,000 in unclaimed property

Almost $210,000 in unclaimed property was returned to Marion County residents in 2011. For each of the 10 counties in North Central West Virginia, State Treasurer John Perdue’s Unclaimed Property Division recently released a list of the number of unclaimed property cases that were paid out last year and the total dollar amount of all those claims, said spokesman Greg Stone.

Saturday filing deadline for May primary

Aspiring politicians have a little over one more day to file their papers to run in May’s primary election. Mary Gay Priolette, the elections clerk in Marion County Clerk Janice Cosco’s office, said the clerk’s elections office will be open until midnight Saturday. That’s the deadline for folks to file their papers and fees.

Probation on Horton’s drug charge is revoked

Probation on a 2009 drug charge for William Michael Horton Jr. was revoked Thursday by Marion County Circuit Court Judge David R. Janes. On March 4, 2009, Horton pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Man flown to hospital after crash: VIDEO

An unidentified man was flown to a Morgantown hospital for treatment following a single-vehicle accident on Route 19 South on Thursday. Deputy First Class Matthew Riffee of the Marion County Sheriff’s Department said it appeared as if the driver was traveling north on U.S. Route 19 when he swerved and hit a telephone pole.

Man charged with making false reports of child abuse

A Marion County man has been arrested by Westy Virginia State Police for allegedly making multiple false reports of child abuse. Frederick Spadafore, 52, is charged with three counts of falsely reporting an emergency incident (West Virginia Code 61-6-20) and two counts of false information to a trooper.
